Islamabad: Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz has said that government is taking serious steps to preserve God gifted water reservoirs in the country.
He was addressing a meeting of Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in his office on Tuesday.
He said that the objective of Planning Commission is to preserve the natural resources to remove the paucity of water and produce electricity and it can play a pivotal role for the development of agriculture in the country.
“The future progress of the country depends upon the expansion and suitable use of water reservoirs for which federal government is playing its due role. Increase in population has burdened the water reservoirs and land in entire worldâ€, he added.
Four water projects were approved including two positions papers during the meeting.
The committee also gave approval of a check dam in Baluchistan .The project is aimed to build a check dam which will accumulate flood water and will fulfill the paucity of underground water. This project will cost 300 million rupees and will be completed in 18 months. It will provide employment opportunities to local population besides creation of recreation facilities.
CDWP has given approval of a position paper and recommended to ACNIC in which Pakistan Glacier Monitoring Network and Command Area Development, Kurram Tangi Dam will cost 892 million and 5091 million rupees respectively.
The project is expected to result to help build a system of irrigation in which austere use of water, obtain better production of crops, improve the system of processing, monitoring of rivers flow and will control weather situation from the upper reaches of the Indus river.
