Sargodha: (Parliament Times) The vice chancellor of University of Sargodha here on Wednesday distributed cash incentives worth Rs. 60million among the faculty members of various departments for their meritorious services rendered in the field of research.
A Research Productivity Awards ceremony was held here in UOS, under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ishtaiaq Ahmed. The ceremony was attended by all the deans and heads of the respective departments of the university. While addressing the ceremony, the VC said that University would soon attain its top10 position among the other research ranking universities of Pakistan adding that research culture would be promoted through ORIC institution. He stated that there were only a few universities in the country which were focusing on inculcating research culture in students.
Director Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and dean Faculty of Management Sciences Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan said that ORIC was striving to develop research sense in the campus. He added that different activities of research were being adhered to promote research habits among the young scholars.
Meanwhile, the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC)’s Faculty Research Productivity award ceremony was held at MBA Hall of the University of Sargodha on the other day. In the debut event, the ORIC awarded 71 projects worth Rs.60 million to the principal investigators out of which 19 for University College of Agriculture, 7 for Zoology, 6 Pharmacy, 6 Botany, 6 Sociology, 5 Biotechnology,5 Chemistry, 4 Economics, 3 Institute of Food Science & Nutrition, Urdu, 2 Education, 2; Physics, 2; History 1; Mass Communication, 1; Commerce, 1; and Mathematics, 1. Out of these 71 awardees, 6 professors, 13 Associate Professors, 41 Assistant Professors and 11 Lecturers will be getting funds as principal investigators.
The second category of awards included faculty members who have published in peer-review and impact factor journals in 2016. An amount of Rs. 6.5 million was disbursed among 104 faculty members including 26 from Agriculture, 11 from Mathematics, 8 from Physics, 7 from Chemistry, 6 from Zoology, 5 from Urdu, 5 from Pharmacy, 4 from Botany, 4 from Computer Sciences, 4 from Psychology, 4 from Earth Sciences, 3 from Food Sciences, 3 from Medical Sciences, 3 from Economics, 3 from Biotechnology, 2 from English, 2 from Islamic Studies and 1 each from Library Sciences, Statistics, Social Work and Sociology.
Sargodha, University of Sargodha has approved its own endowment fund to facilitate the deserving and able students for seeking higher education. This decision was taken in first session of Syndicate, 2017, convened here in University premises under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor, UOS, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed.
Registrar, Mudassar Kamran presented agenda for session. Session mainly focused on the pending matters of last two and half years and approved with majority besides putting forth specific measures for their early resolution. Session also took under consideration the recommendations of academic council and selection board. Session extended hand to resolve the issue of staff shortage at Mianwali and Bhakkar campus.
Members emphasized the need to standardize the quality of education and endorsed the set up the office of Research Innovation and Commercialization. Vice Chancellor exchanged his view in the perspective of Pak China relationship and CPEC agreement. In the pretext, he vowed to inculcate the need to promote Urdu language and agro based research. Amongst others who participated the session was MPA Malik Muhammadn Waris Kallu, Ghaznafar Chheena, Member Higher Education Punjab, Dr. Shoaib Anwar, Member Higher Education Commission, and Islamabad Dr. Mehmud-ul-Hassan Butt. Principal, Sargodha Medical College, Dr. Humaira Akram, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Principal University College of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Ghulam Yaseen Chohan and Secretary Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sargodha Sarfraz Gujjar, Principal Government College, Mianwali Ashraf Khan Niazi and Director local Audit Fund, Muhammad Shafique.
