Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) The Punjab Government has decided to start checking the medicines supplied to all the government hospitals located across the Punjab including Rawalpindi.
The Government is setting-up raiding teams which will conduct surprise checking of the hospitals to verify whether the required and certified medicines are available in hospitals.
According to media reports, a team has been established under Vice-chancellor Rawalpindi Medical University Professor Umar for allied hospitals while Deputy Secretary MS focal Person Hospital will also be part of the team. Others members of team include AMS Store and notified area drug Inspector and notified Police Inspector.
The teams can collect DTL passed samples of medicines and get it DTL from any laboratory in Pakistan or any other country.
According to sources, these initiatives are being taken as many pharmaceutical companies are involved in certifying medicines by giving bribe to the DTL officials, due to which patients are not provided with quality medicines.
According to sources, no action has been taken against private medical stores and pharmaceutical companies supplying fake medicines.
A large number of fake medicines are available in private hospitals across the province.
According to figures, over 50 percent medicines available in private hospitals are fake and non-registered. The owners of private hospitals are behind manufacturing of sub standard drugs and their supply to the patients .
