NEW DELHI: Some unidentified persons have gunned down a senior Indian journalist in city of Bengaluru .
According to media reports the body of Gauri Lankesh, the editor of an Indian weekly newspaper, was found lying in a pool of blood outside her home.
Lankesh was known as a fearless and outspoken journalist and a staunch critic of right-wing political ideology.
According to the BBC, Lankesh was known for her secularist criticism of right-wing and Hindu nationalists, including members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The motive behind her killing has not been ascertained as yet. She was convicted of criminal defamation for one of her articles
The political leadership, journalists and women rights organizations have denounced the killing of Gauri Lankesh.
Condemning the killing of the veteran journalist, Karnataka state’s chief minister Siddaramaiah termed it an “assassination on democracyâ€.
