Islamabad: Justice Asif Saeed Khosa Wednesday remarked that soon the Supreme Court would launch drive against fake witnesses.
He made these remarks during the hearing of a criminal case on Tuesday. He observed that the truth is hidden through fake witnesses while the court ordered release of accused who had been awarded imprisonment from High Court for ten years. Three-member bench led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa conducted hearing of the case.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that in the law of Punjab, there must be word acquit instead of imprisonment. He said if the crime was proved then death punishment is awarded while if the crime was not proved then imprisonment is awarded. He observed when someone was not culprit then he must be acquitted.
He said those commit crime, must be awarded with punishment, adding those who have had not committed any crime then it was not appropriate to keep them in prison. He said we have no love for culprit but objections over the fake punishment.
Justice Khosa warned that soon SC would launch a drive against fake witnesses. He said action would be taken against fake witnesses. He said imprisonment mean, spending entire life in prison. He said it was incomprehensible where twenty five years imprisonment was written. He added if the court will explain word life imprisonment then accused would make appeals for capital punishments.
Later, the court after the arguments ordered to release the accused. Accused Orangzeb was facing allegation of murdering Abdul Latif in 2007 in Okara. The trial court had awarded him capital punishment while the High Court had awarded him life imprisonment.
