ISLAMABAD : The ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) on Friday said the Supreme Court’s verdict in Panama Papers case will be implemented despite severe reservations.
“Nawaz Sharif has relinquished his responsibilities as the prime minister of the country following the judgment of the Supreme Court,†the PML-N spokesperson stated in a press release.
The spokesperson pointed out that during the course of the proceedings of the case, new precedences were set which we have not seen in the history of the country.
All the legal and constitutional options will be exercised regarding reservations on the judgment, the spokesperson added.
In a unanimous verdict, the five-member larger of the apex court, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, asked the Prime Minister to step down and directed the Election Commission to de-notify Nawaz Sharif as Member of the National Assembly with immediate effect.
He has been disqualified for failing to mention his role in the UAE based Capital FZE company in his nomination papers of 2013 elections.
The apex court asked National Accountability Bureau to file references against the Prime Minister, his children, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Muhammad Safdar on the basis of JIT report in six weeks time.
