RAWALPINDI: (Parliament Times) Grand operation by Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) against encroachments in Rawalpindi city fizzled out owing to leakage of information about drive and organized network of encroachment mafia.
The encroachment mafia went underground and RMC vent its anger on launching operation against vendors, hand driven carts.
Under the directives of mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Nasim, chief municipal officer Khalid Javed Goraya set up 4 teams to launch the anti encroachment drive. The city was divided into four zones for operation purpose.
Municipal officer Regulation Pir Shahzad was assigned the areas of Bara Market, Liaqat road, Jinnah road and others, Municipal officer planning Shahzad Haider areas of Sabzi mandi, Urdu bazaar others, municipal officer infrastructure Rafaqat Gondal areas of Raja Bazaar, Nimak Mandi and others, Municipal officer finance Shahzad Gondal was assigned the area of China Market, College road and allied localities.
Owing to leakage of reports about grand operation, the encroachment mafia disappeared from the scene when the teams along with police of relevant police stations and traffic police reached the scenes. The teams removed the vendors and hand driven carts from the markets but not a single thing was taken into their custody by them.
The citizens said that when any decision is taken to conduct operation the corrupt officials of the RMC inform the encroachment mafia in advance and this way any such drive flops.
