PM chairs meeting to discuss Punjab LG elections

ISLAMABAD : (Parliament Times)   A meeting of the PML-N Punjab leaders under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in underway in Islamabad.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Asif Kirmani, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Hamza Shehbaz and other party leaders are present in the meeting.

The Prime Minister is being briefed regarding the elections of mayors and deputy mayors in the province.

Earlier on Monday, Nawaz Sharif said local government system is a nursery and training institution of new leadership.

He said democracy cannot progress without a vibrant system of local governments.

The Prime Minister further remarked that local governments bring forward good leadership at provincial and federal levels.

According to the schedule issued by Election Commission of Pakistan, polling for election of mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and vice chairmen in Punjab will be held on 22nd of this month.

Candidates can get their nomination papers today which can be submitted on this Friday and Saturday.

Notification of successful candidates will be issued on 28th and they will take oath on 31st of this month
