Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Shabbir Ahmad Shah have welcomed the approval of Pakistan-sponsored resolution on people’s right to self-determination by the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. The Hurriyet leaders thanked Pakistan for its tireless efforts to highlight the Kashmir dispute at international level.The Chairman of Hurriyet forum Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his statement also expressed gratitude to the 193-member assembly’s body dealing with social, humanitarian, and cultural issues over its support to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The Mirwaiz deplored the silence of international community over the Kashmir dispute saying that finding out resolution to the dispute was legal, constitutional and moral obligation of the United Nations.
He also denounced the unprovoked shelling of Indian forces on a passenger bus in the Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir that resulted in the killing of several innocent people including children.
The illegally-detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabbir Ahmad Shah in his statement issued in Srinagar while hailing the efforts of Pakistan expressed hope that the resolution would get endorsement of the United Nations General Assembly, next month. Other Hurriyet leaders including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, Bilal Siddiqui and Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo in their statements also hailed the resolution. They also thanked the government of Pakistan for its continued support to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. They termed the resolution a welcoming development.
