Muzaffarabad: The AJK minister for information Mushataq Ahmed Minhas while condemning Indian occupation authorities’ massive crackdown on Hurriyat leaders has said that India that claims to be the largest democracy in the world has usurped the fundamental rights of people of Kashmir.Terming arrest of JKLF chief Yasin Malik and other Hurriyat leaders as a flagrant violation of international law the information minister said that India has been committing serious human rights violations in the region. He said that the United States of America should play its due role to resolve the long pending dispute of Kashmir thereby using its influence to get the UNSC resolutions on Kashmir implemented without any further delay. He said that the EU countries being harbingers of peace, justice and civil rights should also play their role to stop human rights violations in the region committed by Indian troops.
He said that there was a dire need that the US and EU countries should bring change in their policies towards South Asia. For that purpose he said that these countries would have to support to Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for right to self-determination. He said that America’s lopsided approach would impair the balance of power in the region. Stressing the need for creating a balance in its relations with two nuclear neighbours he said that one-sided approach would further escalate tensions between the two nuclear states.
Terming the unresolved dispute of Kashmir as the bone of contention in the region he said lasting peace in south Asia would remain a distant dream until the dispute was settled peacefully in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.
Minhas said that India was stick to its traditional policy of deceit and denial. Instead of paving a way for peaceful settlement of dispute he said that India has turned Kashmir into a military garrison. He said that Kashmiris’ struggle was a legitimate and indigenous struggle. He said that India has deprived people of Kashmir of their basic right the right to self-determination guaranteed to them by the international community.
