Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Under the ongoing `Craft is Knowledge’ program series, the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) will hold a one-day Children Lok Mela at Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), rural area Punjgran, Sector Nilore on Thursday, 23 November 2017 from 10 am to 5 pm in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education (Training Wing).
“The program aims at promoting traditional skills, inculcating awareness among younger generation, specially children and youth about the indigenous folk culture of Pakistan and above all, mobilizing the educational institutions regarding the importance of cultural heritage”, said a statement issued here on Tuesday.
A prestigious ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled at IMCG Panjgran on 23 November at 11 am. Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Executive Director, Lok Virsa will formally open the Mela along with educationists, senior officials of FDE, students, their families and teachers.
The Mela will include the following main features: Live folk musical performances by youth and children, Milli naghmas, folk songs and folk dances, Performances by traditional drummers (Dholis), Artisans-at-work exhibition, Traditional cuisine/ food stalls by students, Mehndi and bangle stalls and several other attractions for children.
