ISLAMABAD, November 18 (Online): Amid reports of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s resignation circulating in the federal capital, spokesman to Prime Minister Mussadiq Malik has denied the reports saying the portfolio is with the premier due to illness of Dar.
He further said that the matter will be reviewed in case of issuance of orders from the court to put name of Dar on Exit Control List (ECL). He said the premier is taking briefings from the ministry affairs on daily basis.
Earlier, media has reported Ishaq Dar has resigned from the ministry and a committee has been constituted to look after economic affairs of the country.
The PML-N government was under pressure from the opposition parties to assign the portfolio to some one else as Dar was unable to deal with matters amid court cases and illness.
The anti-graft body has also moved to put his name on the exit control list, after which Dar ultimately decided to step down.
Dar was indicted on Sept 27 in NAB references filed corruption references against the Sharif Family including Ishaq Dar under Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in Panama Papers case.
Currently, Dar is in London undergoing cardiac treatment. His resignation has reportedly been sent to Prime Minister Shahiq Khaqan Abbasi who will make the final decision after consulting PML-N president Nawaz Sharif.
PM Abbasi may retain the portfolio with himself and a committee comprising PM’s Special Assistant on Economic Affairs Miftah Ismail and former State Bank governor Dr Ishrat Husain will manage the financial matters.
It has been claimed in media reports that Ishaq Dar has not decided to resign and several constitutional options are before him, therefore, he is still holding his office.
