It is quite commendable to note that the Prime Minister’s Health Insurance Programme has been expanded and now it also stands extended to the provinces of Sindh and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah. The two provinces were not part of the programme initially when it was launched in December 2015 as the respective provincial governments had preferred to stay out of its purview.According to the reports, the programme which was initially launched in only 23 districts has now been expanded to as many as 60 districts throughout the country including 11 districts of Punjab, four each of Sindh and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah ,12 of Balochistan, 7 of Gilgit-Baltistan,11 districts of FATA (Federally-Administered Tribal Areas) and 10 districts of Azad Kashmir. All this augurs well for the people of all provinces where people earning less than Rs 200 per day will be entitled to avail free medical treatment in the hospitals duly notified for this purpose. The programme has been expanded and xtended alsao to Sindh and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah (KPK) on the direction of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif . It is also good to note that the federal government will be paying the entire premium for the enrolled families of Sindh and KPK provinces. Irrespective of whether launching of the programme initially and now its expansion covering most parts of the country has anything to do with electioneering of the present ruling party for the general elections scheduled to be held around mid-2018, the programme is already benefitting the under-privileged people in substantial number who are availing free healthcare facilities in the notified hospitals . As per the reports, more than 17 thousand patients have so far been admitted to 81 hospitals which are on the panel of the federal government for this purpose. It is also appreciable that the people are being provided best possible healthcare facilities under the programme without any discrimination of political affiliations, areas or regions. As time passes, more and more people will be availing the healthcare facilities under the Prime Minister’s Health Insurance Programme after they become gradually aware as to what treatment facilities the programme aims to provide them. What is good being done for the people at large should always be appreciated no matter who is doing that.
