MIRPUR (AJK): “The government is determined to deliver the quality medical education to the students of the local state-run medical colleges in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and as a result of this, the standard of the studies in AJK-based medical colleges has reached at par with the education in medical colleges in Pakistan” said Secretary Health Services in AJK Maj. Gen. Khalid Hussain Assad.
He was speaking at a special ceremony hosted in honour of Captain Dr. Basit Javed Malik, on completion of his graduation in medical studies in the state-run Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College in Mirpur Wednesday with distinction.
Principal of the college Mian Abdul Rasheed also addressed the ceremony attended by members of the faculty besides the college students. Secretary Health Services gave away shields of honour to Capt. Dr. Basit Javed, Capt. Dr. Haroon Murtaza and Capt. Dr. Saeed Shafaat on successful completion of their studies from amongst the first batch of the students of the MBBS Medical College Mirpur.
Besides the founder Principal of the college Mian Abdul Rasheed, sitting Principal Dr. Aftab Turrabi, Medical Superintendent Divisional HQ Hospital Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, Medical Specialist Dr. Tariq Masood and other seasoned academics were also present on this occasion.
Applauding the performance of the state-run MBBS Medical College in acknowledgement of the delivery of quality education since its inception about six years ago, Secretary Health Services in AJK Maj. Gen. Khalid Hussain Assad said that both male and female students of the medical college enlighten the name of their institution through the best of their abilities during education and later in the professional field. “The credit of the outstanding performance of the students goes to the faculty of the college led by the founder principal Prof. Mian Abdul Rasheed – who deserve high applause”, he remarked.
Maj. Gen. Khalid Hussain Assad advised the college students who joined medical core of Pakistan Army after completing their studies including three shining stars including Capt Dr. BASIR Javed Malik, Capt. Dr. Haroon Murtaza and Capt. Dr. Saeed Shafaat to focus serving the ailing humanity as their first and top priority of their professional life.
“The name of MBBS Medical College Mirpur has raised after Capt. Dr. Basit Javed Malik secured the Best Cadet Award during the recent training from Army Medical College Abbot Abad for entering the rank of the Army Medical Core of the Pak Army”, he said.
Secretary Health Services AJK further said that the MBBS College Mirpur started bearing quality fruit following the untiring services and input of the founder Principal Prof. Dr. Mian Abdul Rasheed, who despite all odds and hurdles continued the journey of the Medical college from the day first of its inception successfully.
He said that delivery of the quality education primarily depended upon the sincere role of the faculty. Secretary Health expressed that hope that qualified students of the MBBS Medical College Mirpur who attained distinctions and successes after joining Army Medical Core, on completion of their education, would lend all of their energies and skills to earn similar laurels under the fold of the Army Medical Core, he added.
