Faisalabad: Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani has directed the concerned departments to implement the Anti- Smoking Ordinance in letter and spirit.
He expressed while presiding over a meeting of District Monitoring and Implementation Committee for anti smoking here at DC Office. ADC(G) Khalid Masood Faroka, CEO District Health Authority Dr. Nawazish Goraya, DHO Dr. Asif Shahzad, Coordinator Dr. Bilal. DO Education Mazhar Warriach, Social Welfare Officer M. Tahir,
representative of NGO Dr. Jaffar Hassan Mubarik and other officers were also present on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner directed that cigarette should not be sold within the radius of 50 meters of educational institutions and strict legal action should also be taken those selling cigarette to youngest of 18 years age. He stressed upon to start the awareness campaign against smoking throughout the district for the information of public and no smoking boards should be displayed at prominent public places besides parks, General Bus Stands, Railway Station. He said that awareness seminars should be arranged in educational and industrial units in which students, representatives of NGOs and civil society should be included. Representative of NGOs presented some suggestions to make anti smoking campaign a success and assured their full cooperation.
