Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Kashmir Chapter) Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chudhary has appreciated the Apex Court’s decision seeking filing of fresh petition pertaining to grant of voting rights to overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris citizens saying that the PTI was already working on the issue.
“Overseas Kashmiris and Pakistani community has been playing vital role in the socio-economic development of the country”, he said adding that Overseas Pakistanis are the largest source of foreign exchange remittances to Pakistan. “They have been playing a vital role in strengthening the country’s economy by sending foreign exchange of worth 18 billion rupees annually”, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chudhary said while talking to media men at PTI’s central secretariat in Islamabad.
He said that granting voting rights to overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris will further enhance the potential of this vibrant community that has been working painstakingly to promote the country’s image at international level. He said that a sizable number of Diaspora community settled in UK were playing significant role in projecting Kashmir cause
It may be recalled here that the Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf to move a fresh petition for the grant of right of vote to overseas Pakistanis and said it was known to all what role the party, which received most of the donations from Pakistani expatriates, played in parliament when the Elections Act 2017 was placed before it.
