Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, has expressed serious concern over the assault on Kashmiri detainees in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the attack a ghastly act, which had put the lives of all Kashmiri political prisoners in danger. The APHC Chairman said that all these prisoners were innocent and detained on false allegations and demanded their immediate shifting to jails in the Kashmir Valley. He appealed to the world organizations including UN Human Rights Commission, Asia Watch and Amnesty International to take serious notice of the indiscriminate use of draconian law, Public Safety Act, against innocent Kashmiris.
The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar, today, termed the slapping of draconian law Public Safety Act against specially-abled person, Tanveer Ahmed War, as a brazen act of hard-heartedness of the puppet administration. The leadership in a letter to the International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and United Nations Human Rights Commission asked the global human rights watchdogs to intervene in the matter.
Meanwhile, an Indian soldier was injured in an attack on an army convoy in Qazigund area of Islamabad district, today. The incident took place when the army convoy came under fire at Bonigam in Qazigund while it was heading towards Srinagar. The troops cordoned off the area and started house-to-house search operations.
In another development, two policemen were injured in firing by a police constable at a police station in Kulgam district.
On the other hand, the Narendra Modi-led Indian government is planning to issue a special identity card for residents of Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal includes having a unique identification code for the Kashmiri people, which can be used to access their data any time. The card will be another intrusion in personal lives of the Kashmiri people. Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative’s programme Coordinator, Venkatesh Nayak in a media interview in New Delhi questioned the unequal treatment of the Kashmiri people. He said that the move would raise suspicions that every activity of the Kashmiri people was being traced.
