In a bid to converge all opposition parties on one platform, an All Parties Conference of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri to discuss the Model Town incident and Nawaz Sharif disqualification as prime minister held in Lahore.
Representatives of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Peoples’ Party, Awami Muslim League, Jammat-e-Islami, Muttahida Qaumi Movement -Pakistan, Pak Sarzameen Party and other opposition parties reached the PAT Secretariat in Model Town to attend All Parties Conference called on Model Town incident.
Holding a press conference, Dr Tahirul Qadri thanked all major political parties of the country for participating in the conference on his invitation. Qadri said that Nawaz Sharif introduced horse trading and bribe in politics. The PAT Chairman said that Model Town Massacre and ‘Mujhay Kyu Nikala’ is the agenda of this APC . Qadri further reiterated that till resignation of Shehbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah, PAT will continue its protest and it can turn into a sit-in. He further said that over 40 parties are standing with him in this demand. All parties seek resignation of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif over Model Town tragedy. He said that blood of Model Town martyrs brought all the political parties together. He further blamed the PML-N to be the enemies of Pakistan. The PAT chief also reiterated that political parties in the country stand with the army, judiciary and other state institutions. The PAT chief had taken on board all political parties for the APC and contacted the heads of all political parties by phone and invited them to attend the conference. He said the PML-N leaders went to Saudi Arabia to hide their corruption but now power in this world could save him now. Political leaders of different political parties held consultation meeting before attending the APC called by the PAT. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said PTI is very clear about the single point APC agenda to provide justice to the families of the Model Town massacre victims. Today’s conference is not about any sort of election alliance, he clarified. Main Manzoor Watto told the media that PPP is participating in the APC to ensure justice for the families of the Model Town victims. As per PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s direction, he said, the party will support the cause to provide justice for the families of the Model Town carnage victims. Although formal campaigning for the elections has not yet started but all major parties are engaged in organizing public meetings to gain support for the elections. Almost all political parties are busy making their political alliances for 2018. Major political parties are making efforts to fully prepare themselves for next year’s parliamentary elections. Model Town incident was very tragic and justice should be ensured for the families of the victims. The political parties should avoid politicizing the incident for their vested political interests. Political parties should wait for the completion of the current government’s tenure and let the democratic system continue without any hindrance.
